San Francisco's PFF grades reveal the highs and lows of the 49ers' NFC Championship game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Even though they were down 24-7 at halftime due to careless play on both sides of the ball, the 49ers came out strong in the second half.
In the second half, Brock Purdy wreaked havoc on the Lions' defense with his legs and passes, making up for the first half when he completed just seven of fifteen attempts for 93 yards and an interception.
The quarterback's second-half performance—in which he completed 13 of 16 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown—was the driving force behind his overall grade of 72.4 for the game. His passer rating was 132.8. A deciding factor was Purdy's speed.
Purdy gained 52 yards on three scrambles, and 33 of his 48 rushing yards were after contact (minus four yards on two kneel downs). In Week 8 of his NFL career, against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Iowa State product ran for 57 total yards, the only game in which he had more total yards running.
While his career-high came in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals with a stunning 13.5-yard average, Purdy's 10.0-yard average was his second-highest of the 2023 NFL season.
Fifteen out of thirty-six dropbacks (or 41.7% of the total) included the 49ers' quarterback being pressured; this number increased to eight out of twenty-one in the second half from seven in the first.
