Classic Bolognese sauce made lighter. Crock Pot Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce with ground turkey cooks slowly for maximum flavor. Ideal for busy weeknights!
Ingredient
– 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil– 2 carrots peeled– 2 celery stalk– 1 medium onion– 1 pound ground turkey– ½ cup red wine– 1 teaspoon dried sage– 1 teaspoon dried rosemary– 1 bay leaf– 1 28- ounce can San Marzano plum tomatoe– Salt and pepper to taste– A few sprigs fresh basil-for garnish
Direction
1
On medium heat, add oil to a large sauté pan. Put in onion, carrots, and celery. It will take about 3–4 minutes of cooking until the onions are clear.
2
Break up the ground turkey and add it to the pan. Cook until it's no longer pink. Put the spices in.
3
Add red wine and cook until liquid is gone. Use a wooden spoon to break up the tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
4
Place the sauce in the slow cooker using a spoon. Include a bay leaf in the mixture.
5
Low heat for 6 to 7 hours. I always stir my sauce after checking it. If it's still too thick after two hours, you can add a little water to thin it out.
6
Serve with your favorite cooked pasta or vegetable noodle. We love it with gnocchi and baked spaghetti squash!
