A documentary on Céline Dion's health experience will air more than a year after her stiff person syndrome diagnosis. After purchasing global rights to "I Am: Celine Dion," Amazon MGM Studios announced Tuesday that Amazon Prime Video will broadcast the feature-length documentary internationally. The release date will be disclosed later.
Academy Award-nominated director Irene Taylor followed Dion for over a year for the documentary, which promises "a global megastar's never-before-seen private life," according to a press release.
"This intimate exploration takes viewers on a journey inside Celine's past and present as she reveals her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) and the lengths she has gone to continue performing for her beloved and loyal fans," the announcement says.
Two years of SPS symptoms have been "such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it but not to let it define me," Dion said.
I've realized how much I've missed seeing my fans as I work to resume my performing career," the French-Canadian singer said. "During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis." Dion played 52 North American Courage World Tour concerts before the COVID-19 epidemic and postponed more gigs in March 2020.
While recovering from "severe and persistent muscle spasms." therapy, Dion had to cancel these concerts in January 2022. Muscle spasms had delayed her Las Vegas residency some months before.
In a tearful Instagram post at the end of 2022, Dion announced she had SPS, which caused her muscular spasms. The 2019 Met Gala in New York features Celine Dion. In May 2023, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer canceled her remaining 2023-24 tour dates.

"It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again."
Rest assured, I won't give up. "I'm excited to see you again," she said. In November, Dion and her son, René-Charles Angélil, visited with Montreal Canadiens players. The singing icon's sister, Claudette Dion, revealed in December that Céline Dion doesn't control her muscles but dreams of her comeback to the stage.
